Obituary

Washington, Utah – Richard "Dick" Lee Luce, a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, age 85, passed away peacefully into his Heavenly Father's loving arms on Monday, August 9, 2021. Richard was born on October 21, 1935, to Phyllis Putman and Lawrence Luce in Denver, Colorado.

Dick's childhood and teenage years were spent in Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, Nebraska, and California. While in Nebraska, he graduated from Clarks High School in 1954. After graduation he moved to California where he met the love of his life, Patricia Marie Neilson, and they were married on May 16, 1958, in Temple City, California and later were sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.

Dick loved sports throughout his life. In high school, he played football, basketball, and track. He played on an undefeated and unscored upon football team his senior year. He held the high jump record for 20 years at his high school. He also enjoyed playing basketball in high school and later on church basketball teams. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan which he enjoyed watching with his grandson Brett.

Dick's greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He loved to travel with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved his family very much. He would go out of his way to spend time with them and be involved in their activities, especially watching their sporting events.

Dick loved doing genealogy work. He kept accurate records and enjoyed getting names ready for temple work. He took great pride in learning and preserving our family's history.

Dick worked in the steel industry as a steel roller designer and an auto mechanic. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling. He enjoyed building and fixing things along with leather working. He was an active member of the LDS church and loved each of his callings.

Dick is survived by his four children: Julie (Scott) Humann, Florence, AZ, Brad Luce, Rancho Mirage, CA, Melanee Higgins, Beaver, UT, Stephanie (Roger) Hughes, Washington, UT; 13 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Carol) Luce; sister, Katherine Condon; sisters-in-law: Cara Koolmees, Jackie (Darrell) Baker, Kathy (George) Staheli; and brothers-in-law: Don (Miriam) Christensen, Steve (Bernice) Christensen, Danny (Kathy) Pettey, Bobby (CeeCee) Pettey, Fred Jr Pettey.
