St. George, Utah
– Richard "Dick" L Mower, 82, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2018, after a valiant fight with Alzheimer's disease. He was born June 18, 1936, in Provo, Utah to John Franklin Mower and Edith Boletta Madsen Mower. Dick was the youngest of seven children, five sisters and one brother. All of have preceded him in death.
Dick attended Franklin Elementary, Joaquin Junior High and the old Provo High School. It was at Provo High that Dick met the love of his life Marilyn Johnston. They dated for two years and were married in 1955 after Dick had attended his freshman year at Brigham Young University. They were later sealed for all time and eternity in the Jordan River Temple. They had just recently celebrated their 63rd year wedding anniversary.
In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his third son, Scott John Mower, who passed away of cancer in 2013 at the young age of 53. Surviving in addition to his wife, Marilyn, are his sons: Brent Richard Mower of Lexington, Kentucky, Kevin Lee Mower and his wife Bobbett of West Des Moines, Iowa, Robert L. Mower and his wife Moanna of Long Grove, Illinois and daughter-in-law Kori Mower, wife of Scott John Mower (deceased) of Atlanta, Georgia. Dick was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Dick was a graduate of Brigham Young University and earned his degree in Accounting. Shortly thereafter he passed the CPA exam and began working for a small accounting firm. Over his 40 year career he was very successful as a Tax Partner at Simpson & Mower, Peat, Marwick, Mitchell, Arthur Young and Ernst & Young. Many of his clients were some of his best friends who still came to Dick for tax advice long after he retired.
Dick loved the outdoors. His favorite thing to do was go boating with his family. They enjoyed several memorable vacations to Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge and Bear Lake. He was a fitness enthusiast who enjoyed all types of exercise and physical activities. He loved spending time with his "boys" and was, along with Marilyn, their biggest supporters. He leaves a wonderful legacy of love and support for his family and he will be sorely missed.
A visitation will be held in St. George, Utah on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd.
Funeral services will be held in Sandy, Utah on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation at 1:30 p.m., at Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 1050 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Interment will follow in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
