Obituary

St. George, Utah – Surrounded by his children, Richard Schall, 89, passed away in his home in St. George Utah, on August 24, 2016. He was born September 17, 1926 in Pasadena, CA to Martha E. Gibbons and Warren T. Schall.
Richard spent his younger years in Pasadena and had a love of animals at a young age where He would even keep young calves in his back yard along with other animals in the city.
Richard was always very patriotic his whole life. In September of 1942 and 7 days after his 16th birthday he signed up with the Navy after changing his Birth certificate to show he was 17 years old. Richard spent 4 years in the Navy and during that time met the Love of his life Barbara Borschel and after going out eight times they decided to get married. Their love kept them always together and would last over 71 years.
In his earlier years after his service in the military he began to farm turkeys in southern California. He spent many years in the turkey business that took him and his family to many places including four years in Chile. He also ran cattle for a period of time. After returning from Chile, Richard logged in Northern California for many years but his greatest joy came later in life as a professional beekeeper with 800 – 1200 hives of bees. He was able to work his bees until the age of 86 when he retired from work. Richard also loved to fly and almost always had a private plane.
Richard was very active in the LDS church where he served in many callings from Bishop to high council and loved to teach gospel doctrine class.
His greatest joy was always his family and he loved them unconditionally. He set such great example to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always a pillar of strength, un-moveable in his testimony of the gospel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and by his loving wife, Barbara Borschel by only 1 month 10 days; and their son, Stephen H. Schall
He is survived by five children: Ronald Schall, Heidi Friend, Lindsey Bates, Jeffrey Schall, Jason Schall; 32 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.
