St. George, Utah - Richard Allen Thompson passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 24, 2011 in St. George, Utah. Born on October 7, 1919, to James and Josephine Dalley Thompson in Milford, Utah. He graduated from Milford High School and served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
He was married to June Davis on October 4, 1941, until her death on January 18, 1991. Together, they raised two children, Richard Glenn and Jeanne. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They served in the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 31 years.
He then married a lifelong family friend, Maurine W. Farnsworth, on April 9, 1991 in Provo, Utah. They had an opportunity to work together in the Provo Temple and the St. George Family History Center. Maurine's children, Dennis, Diane, Kevin and Karalie and their children became part of their new family.
He is survived by his companion, Maurine, his daughter and step-children, 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren and many beloved brothers and sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
He will have a grand reunion with his first sweetheart, June, and his son, Richard Glen, his grandson, Justin, his parents and his nine siblings. He is the very last to go in his family and he has left a great legacy for us all. The Lord will say to him "Well done my good and faithful servant."
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at the Morningside LDS 7 th Ward Chapel, 879 South River Road, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, at 8:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
