Obituary

Bentonville, AR - Robert Wallace Brown, age 90, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, in Bentonville, AR., of causes incident to age. He had been living with a daughter and son-in-law. Wallace was born October 31, 1918, in LaJara, Colorado to Thomas and Francis Myrtle Kelly Brown. He was one of 11 children of which he was the last survivor. He married Mabel Louise Sego in Taos, New Mexico on June 19, 1936 and they were married for 66 years. He attended school in that area and after the 8th grade he was needed by his family to help with the farm. He worked at farming until about 1945 when he moved his family to Utah and continued in working for Cache Valley Dairy and the utility company in Smithfield. Wallace moved to the LDS Church Ranch in Florida, or Deseret Farms, in 1951. When he first arrived he helped build homes for other families who would be living there. He then worked on the ranch as a heavy equipment operator, operating a dragline to build huge canals that helped drain the land to make it more usable. He loved woodworking, cabinet making and gardening. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife served a mission to Western Samoa and in the Washington DC Temple. He is survived by six children: Cleo (Bob) Crowther of Sanford, CO., Arlo (Jonell) Brown of Provo, UT., Alden (Tanya) Brown of Pleasant Grove, UT., Bonnie (Wyman) Satchel of Bentonville, AR., Roger (Jill) Brown of Buckeye, AZ., and Ivan (Darolene) Brown of Mohave Valley, AZ. He has 37 grandchildren and 14 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mabel Louise Sego Brown; son-in-law, Boyd Jackson; granddaughter, Susan Jackson Freeze, and great granddaughter, Sara Bowman. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, UT. A visitation will be held Thursday, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., at the mortuary, prior to services. Interment will be in the St. George, City Cemetery, under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
