Obituary

Robert C. Johnson St. George, UT - Robert C. Johnson passed away on April 10, 2012. Bob was born to Forrest and Margaret Lyons Johnson February 5, 1926 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He grew up in Huntington, WV, joining the Navy in 1943 where he served as a corpsman attached to the Marine Corps and participated in landings at Iwo Jima and other islands in the Pacific theater. Returning home after the war, he met his wife Emily Stanowski, who was a Navy Wave. Bob went on to play football for Marshall Univ. Between his junior and senior year, as a Marine Corps reservist he was called up for the Korean War, ending up on the Chosin Reservoir, when the Chinese intervened in the war. Bob earned two Purple Hearts during his combat experience, wounded in both World War II and the Korean War. Returning from Korea, he completed his football career and education at Marshall. With his young family he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to pursue a career in Human Resource Management. Eventually his work took him west to mines in Idaho and Wyoming. Bob thoroughly enjoyed people. He was elected to the School Board in Montpelier, Idaho; and, was elected as a County Commissioner in Sweetwater County, WY. With homes in Star Valley, WY, St. George, UT, and Longmont, CO, Bob was able to stay close to his many friends and family. He is survived today by his two sons Mark of Longmont, CO; and, David of Rochester, NY; their wives, Jannelle and Adela; as well as three granddaughters-Monica Giamellaro and husband Mike and great granddaughter, Chloe of Boulder, CO; Mindy and Ashley Johnson of Longmont. A Memorial Mass will held the latter part of May in Green River, Wyoming. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
