Obituary

Robert Camp, was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Mary Esther and Robert Leonard Camp on November 24, 1935. Bob passed away very peacefully at his home with a smile on his face, January 6, 2016, surrounded by his devoted and loving wife, Wanda Dawkins Camp.

Bob loved baseball and played on a farm team out of Graceville, Florida for the Yankees in 1954 and 1955. In the winter he delivered milk in Columbus, Georgia, as well as hauling ice and beer for the Officers Club in Birmingham, Alabama. He worked for Barrett Roofing from May to September of 1955. He then went to work for Hayes International in Birmingham, Alabama in engineering, where he started out as a draftsman until 1964, then went to NASA with the same job and worked on Saturn One for two years. He always had a "big love" for airplanes and often wished he had been a pilot. He moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1966 and worked for Brown Engineering as Project Manager for data retrieval with helicopter maintenance repairs being flown in Vietnam until 1968. In 1968 he bought a Gulf service station in Willowbrook Country Club in Huntsville. In 1970 he became a State Farm Insurance agent until 1976. In January of 1976 he went to work with Colonial Life & Accident as Marketing Director with the company and then retired in 1990, living in Kansas as an Executive Manager with Colonial Life & Accident.

Bob has three children and six grandchildren. Bob's daughter; Sheryl Camp VanHorn was his special angel and anyone that meets her knows why she is a special angel sent from Heaven above. Bob and his wife moved to the St. George area just two years ago, which has been named as his "favorite place to live" of all the states he has lived.

He met his wife in 1979 at Colonial Life & Accident in Columbia, South Carolina, however, it was not "love at first sight." Through much persistence by Bob they became a "one of a kind" couple and began their life together in 1987. They shared many, many happy years together, traveling the country, and living a complete life of happiness. They were always noted as being the "couple that had a good time wherever they went and lived life to the fullest." They always had a smile on their faces and loved everyone they met. You could often see them glaring into each other's eyes with such love and affection for each other. A TRUE LOVE story for sure!

Bob was an amazing man who loved to motorcycle, snowmobile, cook, entertain, golf, and above all else was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Bob fought hard the battle of cancer, always with a positive attitude, and never gave up until the very end. He was a true inspiration to us all. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. God Bless him and may he rest in peace!

A "Celebration of Life" will be held in Phoenix, Arizona on April 16, 2016, with time and place to be announced.
