Obituary

St. George, UT – Robert Lenoir Cox, 98, was born on March 23, 1924, to Arthur D. Cox and Cora Haight. Raised on the Cox farm outside of Rockville, Utah, he is the third son and the fifth child in a family of nine children. One sibling died at birth, but the others raised large families and are known by their numerous posterity as the "Great Eight."

Somewhere in time Robert became "Bob" and is known far and wide only by that name. He was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Evelyn W. Klatt. They had 57 wonderful, happy years together and three children. Those children are Robert (Denise), David (Cheryl), and Karen (Dee Gorder). He later married Mary Webb, now deceased. He also leaves 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.

After serving as a radio operator on a C-47 aircraft during World War II and completing many dangerous missions over enemy territory, he was discharged in Los Angeles where he met Evelyn. They married on February 12, 1946, and raised their family in Los Angeles. Bob worked in construction his whole life. He was a wonderful, talented craftsman. He owned his own carpentry business for several years but sold it to serve a building mission in Georgia and Alabama. He then worked primarily for Broaderick and Howell Construction as a foreman. He built many large buildings and complexes in Northern and Southern Utah, including many churches and city center buildings. A master craftsman, he will always be remembered for his honesty, precision, and fairness in business. Bob held many positions of importance as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but enjoyed being a ward clerk in Springdale, Utah for many, many years. He did so in a building that he was originally in charge of building. Music was an important part of his life, and he could play nearly any instrument that he had a mind to learn about. He mainly played the piano and organ, but was good with a guitar, harmonica, trumpet, and several other instruments he had come across in his life. Singing was as natural as breathing for him. He always had a song to match any given situation or conversation.

We love you dad. Sing and serve on. It will be so good to be back with mom.
