Obituary

Robert Bradford Drew January 15, 1918 - May 9, 2011 Robert Bradford Drew was an amazing man, husband, father, and grandfather. He joined the Navy at age 17 and was involved in the China Campaign while serving on a submarine. He met the love of his life, Thelma, in Santa Cruz while she was going to college. They eloped to Reno and were married for 40 years, and during these years raised two daughters, Susan and Sharon. When WW II broke out he was a Boilers Instructor in the Navy at Treasure Island, California. In 1944 he became a Boiler Engineer for E. F. Drew, Co. of the Bay Area. He didn't stop there with his education. He took correspondence courses through the University of California, Berkley and received his Mechanical Engineering and Business Management degrees and started to work for the State of California Mental Institutions as Chief of Plant Operations at various State Hospitals around California. The last years of his career he managed the State Office Buildings in Sacramento. Bob also was a consulting Engineer. His first wife Thelma died of cancer after his retirement, and he then married Dotti in 1981 and celebrated 30 years of marriage together. He and Dotti moved from Sacramento to Boston to serve as Business Manager for the Christian Science Church. After a year in Boston they moved to St. George where he continued to be First Reader in the Christian Science Society of St. George, and was inspirational in establishing the church in Southern Utah. He also helped to organize the Masonic Lodge in St. George. His love for the arts lead him to serve on the Symphony Board and the Celebrity Concert Series Board. He was always very active and loved flying, snow- and water skiing, scuba diving and golf. He taught his children and descendants to love all, be independent, and educated. He will be missed by all of those whose lives he touched.
