Robert Smith
Isom
April 21, 1938 – November 13, 2016
Washington, Utah - Robert Smith Isom left this earthly realm on the 13th of November, 2016 after a valiant fight with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Lynne; children: Eric (Anne), Kirk (Tori), Garth (Janelle), Trevor (Jocelyn), Terence, and Chad; grandchildren: Cameron, Grey, Micaela, Chloe, Eleanor, Margaret, Brandon, Zachary, Brock, Natasha, Garin, Shelby, Ethan, Trevon, Starlee, Ryden, Violet, and Lucas; and great granddaughter: Kaia. He also leaves behind his sister Martha Isom Whitehead, and his brothers: Samuel, James and Gilbert.
Bob was born in Torrance, CA, the 3rd child of Alma Isom and Cleone Smith Isom. He attended Narbonne high school in Lomita, CA before leaving on his mission for the LDS church in 1958. He was called to serve a two and a half year mission to Montevideo, Uruguay, and after several months he was sent to Lima, Peru as one of the first missionaries to serve in the Andes Mission.
He married Lynne Marie Olsen on July 27th, 1962 in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bob received an associates degree at Los Angeles Harbor College and a bachelor of arts in industrial arts from Long Beach State College with a minor in Spanish. By the time he graduated from college, he had his general contractor's license and continued in this line of work for his entire life, building beautiful homes in Southern California and on the island of Kauai.
Bob served in many callings including: stake missionary, sunday school teacher, young men's president, bishop's counselor, high councilman, and branch president, to name a few. In 2009 and 2010, Robert served a mission alongside his sweetheart in the Mexico City Temple.
Bob had a passion for the ancient cultures and history of Peru. He and Lynne made several trips to Peru, usually serving as guide for family or friends. On any given night, at the end of a busy day, you could find Bob sharing his knowledge and stories about Peru around the kitchen table.
Our beloved husband, cherished brother, loyal friend, admired teacher, treasured YeYe, adored Grandpa Bob, and favorite Uncle Bob will be deeply missed and mourned. We take comfort in the knowledge that families are forever because we know that through Jesus Christ we will be reunited with him in the resurrection.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 166 S. Main Street, St. George, Utah. The family will be available for visiting in the Relief Society room at 9 a.m. Bob will be interred at the Washington City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund ( https://www.ldsphilanthropies.org ).
