Robert Roy
Long
September 8, 1965 – May 11, 2026
Robert was born in Denver, Colorado, to Patricia Arnold and Dennis Shepard. His family moved to San Marcos, California, where Robert attended Catholic schools and enjoyed avocado trees and all the best parts of growing up in SoCal. His senior year he moved to Hurricane, Utah, where he graduated.
After graduation, Robert began his career as an apprentice, eventually becoming a master drywaller - one of the best in Washington County. His work can be seen in numerous buildings, including the Dixie Center, where he specialized in round curves and pitches.
Robert married Danna Reynolds in 1988.
He had a way with small children and was a wonderful father and provider. He was absolutely thrilled to later become a grandfather. He had an infectious smile and was beautiful from the inside out. He enjoyed water, camping, fishing, roller-skating, working on cars, snowboarding, dancing, music, fast cars, teasing and poking - all in good fun.
What he loved most were his children. He loved them enough to leave Catholicism and join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to baptize them.
Robert was a man of strength and integrity. There was never a person who knew him who didn’t like him.
Around 2017, it became apparent he wasn’t feeling like himself and he was diagnosed with early-onset dementia. As it became harder to care for himself, his mother and sister brought him to Sanpete County for a time, where they cared for him until he was placed in a care center.
Robert is survived by his children: Anthony Long (Kayla) of St. George, Utah; Randy Long (Lonisha) of Ivins, Utah; Jorie Long of Ephraim, Utah; Jenahsea Long of Mt. Pleasant, Utah; and Trinitie Runnels (Justin) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He is also survived by his sister, Denise Hannon of Manti, Utah. He leaves behind 23 grandchildren, with another on the way; and several nieces and nephews who all adored him.
These babies are his legacy, and we know he’s looking down on them beaming with pride.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia and her husband Ralph; his brother, Damon Long; his grandparent, Arnold; and his stepfather, Dan Green, who played a huge role in his life as a father.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Metcalf Bonzo Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
Our family would like to express appreciation to Saint George Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they provided, along with Metcalf Bonzo Mortuary.
