St. George, UT - Robert (Bob) Allen Sutterfield, 81, passed away December 12, 2013 after a prolonged battle with emphysema and congestive heart failure. He was born April 22, 1932 in Phoenix, Arizona to Robert Sutterfield and Ethel Ruby Sutterfield. After the divorce of his mother and father, he was raised by his father and step-mother, Nova Elizabeth Sutterfield. Bob was the oldest child and only son with six sisters. On June 30, 1962, he married Carolyn Marie Peppard in Phoenix. They were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple February 1978.

After graduation from Phoenix Union High School in 1951 he joined the Navy, serving in California and Guam, where he was a dental technician. After an honorable discharge he became involved in retail sales rising from floor associate to store manager and regional manager over stores in three states. He eventually relocated to St. George to return to management over a single store that led the company in sales.

Bob joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints November 1976 in Spokane, Washington, and served in many positions over the years. From 2003 to 2005 he and Carolyn served as proselytizing missionaries in the Connecticut Hartford Mission.

Bob was a very caring and loving person and a great story teller. He was especially fond of children and they were drawn to him. Family and friends remember him as patient, understanding, compassionate and a good listener. His love for his family was the most important concern in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Carol Yvonne Young and Martha Jo DesJardin. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, David Allen (Vickie) Sutterfield of Herriman, Utah; grandchildren: Sara Nicole (Adam) Locatelli of Maple Valley, Washington; Michelle Erin Sutterfield of Provo, Utah; David Robert Sutterfield and Andrew Douglas Sutterfield of Herriman, Utah; great-granddaughter, Georgia Locatelli. He is also survived by sisters: Edith Jorjean (Floyd) Swann of Loma, Colorado; Ruby Jean (Gene) Shroyer and Donna Mae ( Ron) Burgess of Phoenix, Arizona.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing one prior, at the Bloomington 8 ^th Ward Chapel, 3519 Manzanita Drive, St. George, Utah. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
