St. George, UT - Roland Sterger passed away November 25, 2010. He was born December 16, 1918, the second of eight sons, to David Sterger and Alice Lofink in Sterling, Colorado where he engaged in farming. The family moved to California where Ron attended Compton Jr. College. He married May Hardee in 1942; they were later sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. Along with three of his brothers, Ron served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Sylvania. Ron and May had four children, Raymond, Sandra, Debra and Kerry. He worked in the industrial tools and hardware business as a salesman for over forty years before he retired and moved to St. George, Utah. He was an avid outdoors man who loved to camp, fish and hunt with his family. He also enjoyed gardening and won awards for his well landscaped yard. He was active in the LDS Church and held many positions, but his favorite was coaching fast pitch softball for over twenty years, winning the all church championship twice. He is preceded in death by his wife and sweetheart, May; his brothers: David, Albert and Palmer; a son Kerry; and a grandson, Scott. He is survived by his brothers: Edward, Walt (his special care giver), Norman and Harry; brother-in-law, Paul Dohrman; his children: Raymond (Suzanne) Sterger, Sandra (Ralph) Harper, Debra (Doug) Ashby; ten grandchildren; and thirty great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m at the Mortuary, prior to services. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery.
