Washington, Utah – James Ronald Wood, or Ron as he was known, 71, passed away unexpectedly June 8, 2025. He was born April 22, 1954, in Cedar City, Utah, the second of four children to James Grant Wood and Ruth Green Wood. His family moved often in his younger years, but he spoke fondly of living in Beaver, Utah, Fullerton, California, Austin, Texas, and especially Kearns, Utah. He lived in Kearns as a teenager where he met his eternal companion Cindy. After graduating from Kearns High School, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1973 to London, England. It was on his mission that he gained a deep testimony of Jesus Christ. Ron lived his whole life in honor, and in a way that reflected his deep love of the Savior. Honesty, integrity, loyalty, and kindness were very important qualities to him, all of which he exemplified. Ron had a kind heart, and a gentle soul.
On October 8, 1977, Ron married Cindy Kaye Gines in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity. They loved each other deeply. They started their life together in Granger, Utah and soon were able to buy their first house in Hunter, Utah. They worked together to make their house a home. Ron was well known for his beautiful and meticulous yard everywhere he lived. Eventually they moved to Stansbury Park, Utah where they built their dream house and raised their family. Ron served in many church leadership callings throughout his life, but he particularly enjoyed teaching primary. He was a very gifted public speaker and tied in his love for the outdoors into most talks and lessons.
Ron and Cindy were blessed to adopt all of their children. Their son, Cameron James, came first in 1983. Shortly after, Michele Alies was added in 1987, and Janelle Kaylee in 1996 to complete their family. Ron was a very fun dad! Their home was filled with love, joy, laughter, and lots of playtime. Ron's deep love for the outdoors reflected how they spent time as a whole family. They all loved being in the mountains camping and riding four wheelers together.
Ron had an outgoing and fun personality. He had a few odd jobs like delivering ice cream, before finding his niche in computer sales. His success there made it possible for him to retire early. After retiring he spent more time with his family, whom he loved dearly. He also took the opportunity to travel near and far. Ron particularly enjoyed traveling to the Beaver Mountains, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, and Jackson Hole where he could enjoy and photograph the many beauties of the Earth. He had an amazing talent for nature photography.
One of the things Ron enjoyed most in life was being a Grandpa, and he is beloved by his children and grandchildren alike. Ron and Cindy made efforts to know their grandchildren individually and spent regular one on one time with each of them. He had a knack for making up games that brought people together. He was fun loving and the life of every gathering.
A couple of years after Cindy's passing Ron was blessed to find another Cindy to enjoy his life with. Ron married Cindy Conley on March 20, 2023. They moved to Washington, Utah together where they could enjoy the sunshine. Ron and Cindy were best friends that enjoyed traveling the world together and spent time in Africa, Europe, Canada, and the many national parks that Ron adored. They also enjoyed their weekly service in the St. George Temple.
Family meant everything to Ron, and Ron meant everything to his family. His departure from this life brings immense sorrow to the hearts of those who knew him, but his fun nature, integrity, loyalty, kindness, and pure love of the Savior fill those same hearts with hope of a peaceful reunification in the world to come.
He is preceded in death by his eternal companion, Cindy; parents, Ruth and Grant; and grandson, Benson.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Cindy; children: Cam (Lacee), Michele (Ryan), Janelle (Daniel); grandchildren: KateLyne, Kenzie, Tanner, Bria, Cohen, Denver, Ian, Lincoln, Jace, Ike, Dawson, Deklan, Elsie, and Addison; great-grandchild: Karter; and siblings: Cary (Tricia), Jan (Mike), and Ken (Cindy).
