St. George - Ronald Olson Dixon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, 77, passed away on September, 21, 2012. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on January 8, 1935, the only child of Kenneth and Estella Dixon. His early years were spent in Kelly, Wyoming where he lived in a log cabin and attended first grade in a two room school house in which his mother taught the primary grades and his father taught the secondary grades. His family moved to Falls Church, Virginia in 1942. He graduated from Washington Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia.

Ronald attended George Washington University for a year and then postponed his education to serve an LDS mission to France. He finished his undergraduate degree in history at Brigham Young University in 1959. At BYU he served as senior class senator in the student government, performed in the theatrical production of "Sand in Your Shoes," and sang and toured with the BYU A Cappella Choir.

It was in the choir that he met the love of his life, Heidi Remde. Ron and Heidi were married September 4, 1959 in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple. Ronald and Heidi moved to Washington, D.C. where Ronald worked for the U.S. Department of the Navy while attending law school in the evenings at George Washington University. Both their children were born in Washington, D.C.

The first half of his career, Ronald worked as a contracts attorney in the private sector for Boeing Co. in Alabama, Emerson Electric Corp. in Missouri, and United Aircraft Corp. in Connecticut. The second half of his career, Ronald moved his family back to Washington DC to work in the public sector as legal counsel to Nixon's National Commission on Productivity, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Later, when the family decided to move west, Ron continued to provide legal counsel to the U.S. Department of Energy in Nevada as well as in California. Throughout his career, he enjoyed lecturing at the university level teaching classes on negotiations, business law, contract law, and U.S. Government.

Wherever Ronald lived he provided many hours of service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ronald's love of history, music, traveling, tennis, snow skiing, camping, hiking, and sailing were shared with his children and grandchildren. He and Heidi moved to St. George in 1998 to be close to both sets of parents and care for them.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Heidi, of St. George, UT; his daughter, Rebecca Lynne (David) Tress of Henderson, NV; his son, Spencer Remde (Jessica) Dixon of Arvada, CO; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will follow at the St. George City Cemetery.
