Obituary

St. George, UT – Rosa Oliver, 64, died peacefully on August 16, 2023, in St. George, UT.  Rosa was born March 3, 1959, in Inglewood, CA to Gloria and Kualii Ralph Oliver.

Rosa grew up in Buena Park, CA where she was involved in martial arts, competitive sports and cheerleading.  Her love of sports continued throughout her life.  She was a devoted Lakers, Angels, Rams and Ducks fan. She loved all types of games and was often introducing friends and family to the newest board game or card game she had discovered. In fact, the party never really started until Rosa arrived and then the games and laughter would begin. Cheaters beware, as Rosa would not tolerate cheating.

Rosa loved being with friends, going to the movies, cooking, trying different foods and crocheting. Rosa had a beautiful voice and loved singing. She had a deep appreciation for most music but hadn't quite extended that to country music. Rosa absolutely loved to dance and often would attend dances with friends, even if country dancing was involved.

Rosa had a lifelong love of learning and reading. She received her AA degree from Cypress College and her BA degree from California State University Long Beach, graduating with honors.

Rosa served a mission to Ecuador for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she became fluent in Spanish. This allowed her to communicate better with her own Hispanic relatives and serve all Spanish speaking people she interacted with. She taught English as a second language for several years as an elementary school teacher. She had a special place in her heart for the Spanish people.

Rosa was also half Hawaiian and loved the beauty of her Hawaiian roots as well.  She loved her large, extended family in "the islands".

Rosa was such a tender and compassionate caregiver.  She lovingly and patiently cared for her mother throughout her years of struggling with dementia. Rosa moved to St. George to be around family after her mother's passing four years ago.

Rosa had a deep love of the Savior and served Him faithfully to the end.  She loved serving in Primary, Young Women's, Relief Society, and teaching Gospel Doctrine. Rosa blossomed serving in the singles program the last few years of her life and acquired a large circle of friends that she really enjoyed and treasured dearly.  Rosa caught the family history bug and absolutely loved being in the temple often.

Rosa loved her nieces and nephews, delighting in their many achievements and accomplishments.  She is survived by her three siblings: Pilialoha (Ronald) Min, Evalani (Derek) Lee, and Ralph (Rebecca) Oliver.  She leaves behind 13 precious nieces and nephews and 26 great nieces and nephews.

Rosa was loved by so many and leaves behind many grieving hearts.

A celebration of life will be held for Rosa on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 750 North 1000 West, St. George, UT 84770. A viewing will be held Friday, prior to services, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be at Veyo Cemetery, Veyo, UT.
