Ross Henry
Whicker
February 20, 2020
St. George, UT - Ross Henry Whicker, cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020. Dad was born and raised in Fillmore, Utah. His parents, N. Henry and Arah Lee Whicker lovingly raised Dad with his older brother, Fred (Kathy), and sister, Loreta in a home of learning and love.
As a stalwart servant of Jesus Christ, Dad served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Hamburg, German mission and later two service missions.
He was a radioman in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Returning home, he began his studies at Southern Utah College, when on a break from school, he met the love of his life, Joan Clyde, in Fillmore where she worked as a nurse at the local hospital. They were married in the Manti, Utah Temple. Dad was always grateful to his sister Loreta, whose hospital stay introduced Mom and Dad.
Dad was a life-long teacher. He graduated with a degree in Math and German and spent his career teaching, first in Roswell, New Mexico and then for nearly 30 years at Midvale Middle School. He also loved teaching Elders Quorum, High Priests Quorum, and served as a Gospel Doctrine teacher for years in the Sandy, Utah area. He taught the family the favorite game O'Heck and loved to play O'Heck and pinochle with family and friends.
Dad loved to sing, play guitar, read, and travel. Dad and Mom traveled the United States extensively together, loving the drive together as much as the sights. We will miss his wise counsel, his easy smile, his priesthood blessings, and his generous heart. We hold dear his sure knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and our Savior, Jesus Christ and will hold close that witness. Until we meet again, Dad.
Dad is survived by his children: LeeAnn and Troy Loader, Rob and Lark Whicker, and John and Juliann Whicker; grandchildren: Aleesa (Zac), Mauryn, Rylan, Jordan, Tannon, Kara, Greyson, Charlotte, Colin, Evangeline, and Taran; and great-granddaughter, Winry. Dad was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Joan Clyde Whicker.
Dad will be interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah following a graveside service for family and friends on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please forgive a debt, laugh through tears, double tip your wait staff, double your fast offering, take someone to dinner, or give away your excess to those in need.
