Roy Earl
Jones Jr.
December 14, 1924 – August 24, 2016
Roy Earl Jones, 91, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in St. George, Utah, to join his best friend and beloved wife, Colleen, who passed away a short six months ago. Roy was born December 14, 1924, in East Los Angeles, California, to Roy Jones and LaVona Mallett.
Though Roy and Colleen met later in life, they created a magical 53 years together. They enjoyed working, building, playing tennis, water skiing, snow skiing, running, traveling and making friends wherever they went.
Roy said he didn't really like to travel that much, but Colleen had been in the Foreign Service and had traveled extensively all over the world. She couldn't get it out of her system, so he went along!
Although they had no children of their own, they showered nieces and nephews with love and souvenirs from their travels.
Roy served in the United States Navy for three years and even drove a missile truck.
He and Colleen had a farm in Hurricane, Utah with three acres of peach, apricot and pecan trees. They also had kittens, puppies and baby bunnies to love and care for.
When Roy absolutely could not care for his dear Colleen, she went to Beehive Homes Assisted Living. That did not stop Roy, he would come to see her every day to bring her an ice cream cone, a kiss and take a little nap with her. All the staff loved to see him come carefully walking in with his cane, a twinkle in his eye and a big smile on his face. They loved seeing such devotion with their endearing bond.
We feel blessed and honored to have known you Roy. Thank you for showing us what a great man is. We love and will miss your sweet spirit and big smile! Until we meet again, . . . love your devoted family and friends.
Karen and Laura would like to say a special thank you to the wonderful staff from Applegate Home Care and Hospice, for their special care that was above and beyond.
