Obituary

Lt. Colonel Roy J. Notley

Ivins, Utah –Lt. Col. (Retired)  Roy J. Notley, 86, passed away on July 21, 2016.  He was born May 17, 1930 in Hanford, California to John Notley and Clara Underwood.

Roy was raised and educated in Coalinga, California.  After college, he became a Navel Cadet and later an Air Force Cadet, earning his commission and wings in 1953.

He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Edenborough, on December 23, 1952.

He was an Air Force pilot during the Korean War, Cold War, and Vietnam War.  He flew 28 different aircraft during his military service, was part of the Strategic Air Command, was a nuclear weapons instructor and command pilot flying the B-47 and the B-52.

Roy completed is BA at the University of Nebraska, Omaha.

During the Vietnam War, Roy was a Forward Air Controller.  He served with dedication, valor, and was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and a Purple Heart.

After retiring, Roy and Norma enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting and exploring nature.  He was a talented building and enjoyed stonework.  They built five homes in the Western United States.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Debby Notley, and son-in-law,Tom Venner.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, of Ivins, Utah; his son, Randolph Notley of Sacramento, California; daughter, Nancy Venner of Fresno, California; son, Robert (Cindy) Notley of Kerman, California; brother, John (Elaine) Notley of San Luis Obisno, California; six grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildrren.

Burial will be at a future date at the Arlington National Cemetery.
