Hurricane, Utah - Royal Dean Holdaway was born January 24, 1929 in Glenwood, Utah to Royal Lynn and Bernice Sampson Holdaway, the eldest of 8 children. He passed away December 22, 2012 in his sleep as the family was preparing for the annual Christmas party.

He married Gwen Webb on June 30, 1950 in the St. George LDS Temple. This marriage was blessed with 8 children.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gwen; children: Deana (Howard) Wade, David (Linda), Ronald (Jolynne), Lydell (Karen), Kelvin, Rebecca (Gary) Terpstra, and Brent (Lorene); 39 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: Ivan (Phyllis), Gary (Deanne), Lynn (Virginia) and Gaylan (Marleah); brothers-in-law: Ross Harward and Bob Malmgren; sister-in-law, Bonnie Holdaway; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara, two granddaughters: Shauna and Kimberly; sisters: Shirlene Harward and Berva Malmgren; and brother, Verl Holdaway.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane LDS 7 ^th ward Chapel, 155 East 1050 North, Hurricane, Utah. Visitations will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 North Main Street and Thursday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
