IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruby Mildred
Sundquist Young
December 8, 1930 – February 12, 2025
Ruby Mildred Sundquist Young was born on the cold, wintery morning of December 8, 1930. She was the youngest child of seven children of parents Jack and Ida Sundquist, both Finn-Swede immigrants who met and married at Brigham Canyon, Utah. Ruby met her future husband, Marshall Eugene Young on a blind date to Timpanogos Cave in American Fork Canyon. After a long persuasion, they married on September 25, 1953.
Ruby was raised in what is now known as Sandy, Utah and attended high school as a "Beetdigger" at Jordan High School, where she had a "gang" of wonderful friends who formed a chorus and sang at various events. After graduating, she entered the work force, with many years spent in the banking world. Her children enjoyed her delicious cooking (chili being the leading favorite) and her fun sense of humor while growing up in her home. A competent seamstress, her girls especially enjoyed the matching Easter dresses she fashioned for them.
Ruby enjoyed singing in choirs, especially when performing The Messiah, oil painting, cooking, writing and traveling, especially on cruises. This last December she celebrated her 94th birthday on a cruise to Hawaii with all of her children. She loved lutefisk at Christmas, tacos (with radishes), See's chocolates, Hostess snowballs and Chicken Chow Mein with crunchy noodles. She did not like keeping tomatoes in the refrigerator, but preferred them room temperature, and was a discerning critic of the food creations of her children.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Ida Sundquist; her six siblings: Hugh, Heige, Linnea (Greer), Alvin, Viola, and Kenneth; and her sweetheart, Marshall Eugene Young. She is survived by her five children: Kim (Chris) Coons, LeAnn (Harry) Lenderman, Paul (Lisa) Young, Lori (Tony) Layne and Cheryl (Edward) Albanoski. Ruby was grandma to 20 grandchildren and "GG" to 39 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Crescent Cemetery, 11105 South State Street, Sandy, Utah.
The family wishes to thank Intermountain Hospice for their kind service and nurse Sam on the fourth floor at St. George Reginal Hospital.
