Obituary

St George UT - Glen Ipsen was born January 12, 1930, in Salt Lake City to Rulon Alvin and Belva Moore Ipsen.  He was the second of eight children. Following his graduation from East High School, he worked at the Union Pacific Railroad while he attended the University of Utah and studied accounting. He served in the New England States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After returning home, he married Dawn Terry on March 18, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Glen was drafted into the Army and assigned to the Counterintelligence Corps in San Francisco. While stationed there, Glen and Dawn had their first child, Randy. After Glen was discharged from the Army, he worked for the railroad while living in the Avenues in Salt Lake, where their second child, Terri, was born.  Glen left the railroad and accepted a position with American Oil Company.  Glen and Dawn then purchased their first home on Crawford Street in Murray, where their third and fourth children were born, Kerwin and Kamen. Glen was promoted to auditor, and his new responsibilities took the family to Billings, Montana where their fifth child, Erin, was born. Glen accepted a promotion which brought the family back to Melbourne Street in Salt Lake City. Six years later Glen was transferred again and took his family to Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Glen and Dawn lived in Colorado for more than 20 years until Glen retired and purchased a home in St. George and a cabin in Oakley. These homes provided many family gatherings and happy memories.

Glen loved sports. As a young man, he enjoyed playing basketball in church leagues. He loved golfing and playing tennis with his family and in-laws. Tennis was a common gathering place for his family throughout his life. Glen loved his active life in St. George with his wife and their best friends and in-laws Garth and Mary Lou Terry.  Family gatherings in St. George were among his most treasured memories.

Glen was devoted in his church service.  He served as Bishop of the Applewood Ward during their time in Denver.  Glen loved to sing. He joined the Southern Utah Heritage Choir and performed in Carnegie Hall, Czechoslovakia, and China. After 20 years with the choir, he had to retire due to his faltering voice.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents, Rulon and Belva Ipsen, his sister, Beverly Beard, and his brothers Dean, Jerry, and David. He is survived by his wife Dawn, his children, Randy (Rosana), Terri Burton (Jeff), Kerwin (Cindi), Kamen and Erin Madrigal (Rick), 20 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren, his sisters, Carol Pollei and Louise Shields, and his brother Alvin (Susan).

Glen was adored by his family and will be greatly missed.
