St. George, Utah – Russell D. Boyce, 81, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on June 27, 1942, in Murray, Utah to Charles Avard Boyce and Mary E. Boyce. He married Gerri Stinnett Mitchell in 1965.
Russell had a distinguished working career for the State of Utah, starting with the Health Dept. and going on to Utah State Prison where he held many positions, including investigations and administration before retiring with 23 years of Law Enforcement service. Seeking a warmer area, he accepted a position with the Dept. of Transportation where he worked as a Safety Inspector at the Port of Entry, Southern Utah for another 15 years.
Russ had several hobbies – belonging to a riding club in his younger years, restoring an antique Ford truck and belonging to a local car club but his favorite was belonging to the Bass Fishing Association and doing competition tournaments.
Russ is survived by his wife, Gerri; sons: Todd Mitchell (LaRae) and Justin Boyce of St. George, UT; daughter, Lana Mitchell of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Ken Boyce of Belton, TX; grandchildren: Paul Stookey of Kansas City, MO, Jed Stookey of Salt Lake City, UT, Jared Sego of St. George, Utah, Justin Sego of St. George, UT, and Amber Mitchell Biegler (Brett) of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren: Connor Stookey of Kansas City, MO, Nathaniel Stookey of Salt Lake City, UT, Madyx Sego and Draxton Sego of Delta, UT and Garrett Biegler of Phoenix, AZ.
The family wishes to thank the IHC Hospice nursing staff for the great care and support that they gave to our beloved Russ.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
