IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Russell Homer
Nielson
August 7, 1934 – January 30, 2026
Russell Homer Nielson, age 91, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, in St. George, Utah.
Russell was born on August 7, 1934, in Ephraim, Utah, where he was raised and spent his formative years. Growing up on a farm shaped his strong work ethic and love for the outdoors. Summers were often spent working the land, and he especially cherished time fishing and hunting alongside his father, and sons.
Russell was an excellent student with a lifelong appreciation for learning. After graduating from high school, he attended Snow College in Ephraim, then continued his education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He later transferred to the University of Utah, where he earned his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1956.
On September 9, 1955, Russell married the love of his life, Janice Tucker. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and devotion to one another. Janice preceded him in death on December 17, 2019.
During their marriage, Russell's employment opportunities took them to several cities, each of which they called home. They purchased their first home in Murray, Utah, then moved to Scottsdale, Arizona; Cypress, California; and Pleasanton, California. In 1977, they settled in Alta Loma, California, where they lived until 2016, when they moved to Santa Clara, Utah.
Russell and Janice were blessed with three children: Steven Russell Nielson, Kaye Nielson Schooley, and Michael Tucker Nielson. He is also survived by his sister, Suzanne Olsen of Los Angeles, California, along with 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy and pride to his life.
Russell will be remembered for his diligence, integrity, and quiet strength, as well as his deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of hard work, the outdoors, and time spent with family and friends.
