St. George, Utah - Russell Stanton Jones passed away on January 1, 2014 due to complications of renal failure. He was born on April 6, 1945 to Viola Bauer & Harvard Stanton Jones in Cedar City, Utah. His childhood was in Enterprise where he had all sorts of adventures and learned life skills. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1962. He was Student Body President his Senior year. He then served four years in the Air Force as Minuteman Missile Mechanic and as Team Chief, Electro-Mechanical Team. He married Sylvia Gale in 1967, and they were blessed with two boys, Jeremy Brian Jones and Bradley Wade Jones.
Russ and Sylvia lived and worked in Great Falls, Montana for quite a few years. They loved traveling with their boys around to various soccer games. Russ always loved building and became a master builder. He worked in construction almost all his life, and after hours he had projects he built and also restored classic cars and such. They moved to St. George to get out of the COLD and to be by family and friends, where he continued his building work.
Russ loved family gatherings, reunions, get-togethers and so on. He had a great sense of humor and loved the outdoors, hunting and pine nut picking and such. We all have wonderful memories of these fun times. Russ was always willing to help family and friends in any way. He is going to be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his sons: Jeremy Brian (Naomi) and their two sons, Aiden and Reece, of Seattle, Washington and Bradley Wade of St. George. He is also survived by three sisters: Delores Holt (Elvis) of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Gayle Randall (Theron) of Enterprise, Utah and Melody ONeal (Brian) of Sumner, Washington; two brothers: Travis (Lana) of Ivins, Utah and Wynn (Karen) of Lehi, Utah. Russ had a lot of friends. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Viola and his Dad, Stanton.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
