Obituary

Washington, Utah - In the early morning of Good Friday, April 6, 2012, in her own home, Ruth Neely passed peacefully from this world returning to many loved ones that preceded her in death. She was born August 22, 1942, in Morganton, North Carolina. A wonderful mother, Ruth loved her children, Darrin (Penny) Bivens, Tina Call, and Crystal Carpenter, and step-children Shelley (Alaina) Shepherd, Julie (Jeff) Thompson, and Becky (Mike) Neuenschwander. Her sixteen grandchildren were the light of her life, bringing so much joy and happiness into her life.

After graduating with high honors from Western Piedmont Community College, she began a career in nursing, a career she remained in for the breadth of her life. Throughout the many adventures of her life, Ruth found ways to serve others, including tending and caring for neighbors after her retirement. It was her lifelong passion and what others loved about her. She loved those around her with a deep compassion, and her soft Southern voice brought joy to so many, hence her nickname "Southern Comfort".

A poet, a lover, a mother, and a friend, her deep love for her those around her and soft gentle ways will be missed by those she loved. Her adventurous life led her, and her children, to reside in North Carolina, Wyoming, and Utah.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at the St. George Community Church, 95 South 800 East, St. George, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
