IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth Allyson
Washburn
June 13, 1947 – April 15, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ruth Allyson Washburn, who left us peacefully on April 15, 2025. Born on June 13, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, Allyson was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a cherished grandmother.
Allyson had a lifelong passion for learning and service. She found great joy in her work as a librarian, serving as the director of the former Dixie College Library and, more recently, as a librarian in the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University. Her dedication, warmth, and intellect touched the lives of countless students and colleagues, and she made many dear friends along the way.
All who knew Allyson can attest to her kind heart and unwavering willingness to serve. She was an active member of her church, serving in numerous capacities during her lifetime. Allyson participated in her neighborhood book club, contributed faithfully to the ward garden, and served regularly in the temple. She was also a source of comfort and strength to many, offering friendship and support in times of need.
A lover of literature, the arts, and family history, Allyson spent her free time reading, attending cultural events, and researching genealogy. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and joy.
She is survived by her children: Sallie Sullivan, Joshua Creel, and Julia Garrad; and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Kathreen Martin, and her husband, William T. Washburn.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Clara 8th Ward Chapel, 3680 Pioneer Parkway, Santa Clara, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in the Santa Clara City Cemetery located at 1950 Ancestor Way.
