Obituary

St. George, Utah – Solomon Dennis Visser, passed away in his home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the age of 93, just 19 days shy of his 94 th birthday. He fought a good fight all the way to the end. Dennis was born on February 13, 1929, in Ogden, Utah to Henry Visser and Marie Denos. He met his sweetheart, Lunell Montierth right after he returned from his LDS mission while she was in the 11 th grade in school. They were later married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 18, 1951. Together they made Southern California their home state for many years.

Dennis worked as a customer service manager for General Electric from his early young adult years until retiring after 35 years of service. Then went on to work a couple more years for Howard's Appliance. He was a man willing to do hard things and always worked hard to make his home comfortable, for his family and the Spirit. Together Dennis and Lunell raised and loved five children. Dennis was always willing to share responsibilities around the home and do whatever was needed. He taught volumes by example. There was nothing beneath him or not worth his time. Later when all of the children were grown dad would often join Mike on night routes for Mike's business or help his son-in-law Alan work in the Temples or churches preparing them for wallpaper. He was proud of all of his children and their accomplishments in life and in the church.

In 1989, Dennis and Lunell retired and moved to St. George. They received a calling to serve as temple workers in 1991 and loved the time spent together there each week. They served faithfully together until August 2010, only taking a break to serve as full time missionaries from 2002 to 2004 in the Slovenia, Ljubljana Mission.

Dennis was a proud son of immigrant parents who came to America to be able to enjoy the new religion they came to love and to be able to become an eternal family. He was able to see and experience the land of his heritage when he was called to serve a three-year mission to The Netherlands as a 19-year-old. Cherishing his Dutch heritage and his American freedom.

Throughout his service in the church, he was blessed with opportunities to serve as a Branch President, Councilor to multiple Bishoprics, Executive Secretary, Missionary, and Temple Worker. Probably his most valued calling was that of husband and father. He was always ready and willing to step up whenever and wherever needed. Family was always his number one calling.

Dennis was preceded in death by the love of his life, Lunell Montierth Visser, that he has missed deeply the past 11 years; his parents, Henry and Marie Visser; siblings: Hank Visser and Mary Maughan; as well as his "Special Son", Randall Kyle Visser. He is survived by his children: Larry (Deanna) Visser, Linda (Alan) Trask, Johnny (Tracie) Visser, Mike Visser; 18 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
