Obituary

St. George, Utah - Sam Dadiotis completed his mortal journey on Sunday, August 29, 2021, surrounded by those he loved – his brother, Peter; his oldest daughter, Nicci Cary, and his other daughter, Stacia Mizukawa, as well as her family.  His final moments were beautiful and tender. His family on earth expressed their love for him and find comfort in that his mother, father, and brothers who preceded him were there to greet him on the other side.  If you knew Sam, you knew that his family was his everything.

Born Sotirios Demetrios Dadiotis on October 23, 1948, in Rododafni, Greece. Sam was the 3rd born son of Demetrios and Theoni Dadiotis.  He spent his childhood in the village of Aigio, which lies on the shores of the Gulf of Corinth.  This is where he gained his love of the ocean, which was second only to his love of his family.  As a boy he would spend countless hours swimming and fishing and exploring the sea and continued to do so throughout his life.  He and his brother, Pete, Migrated to the US at the age of 17 but not speaking a lick of English. After retiring in 2013, he would return to Greece every year from May until October to be with his brother, Peter and enjoy the simple life of summers at the family beach house in Aigio.

He married Glory Knittle in 1974 and although they would eventually divorce, they would remain friends through the years.  He made his living in the restaurant business owning and operating several restaurants in Denver, CO and later in Colorado Springs.  While running his restaurants, he also began serving Greek food at special events, street fairs and festivals which he would do until he retired. In between operating the restaurants in Denver and Colorado Springs, he moved with his family to Scottsdale, AZ where he continued to do food at special events and catering jobs.  He was an accomplished chef and restaurateur.  After retiring, he took great pleasure in helping his daughters' food service businesses.  After relocating to St. George, UT in 2016 with Stacia and her family, he found a new way to stay busy (and some of his dearest friendships) in driving for St. George Shuttle and CJ Wade.

Sam also developed a love of sports at a young age.  He was an elite soccer player and had the opportunity to play professionally.  Sam, his brothers, and good friends continued to play competitively with a club in Denver for many years.  Upon coming to America, he became passionate about football and loved to watch and bet on games and was a diehard Denver Broncos fan.  He also loved to gamble and one of his last requests was to go play bingo with family which he did twice in the weeks before he passed.

Sam is survived by his brother, Peter Dadiotis; daughters: Nicci Cary and Stacia Mizukawa (Todd); grandchildren: Skylar Cary (Kristina), Sierra Ori, Micah, Bailey, Brooke and Taysen Mizukawa; and great-grandchildren: Jayce Cary and Scarlet Ori.  He was preceded in death by his mother, his father and two brothers.

Sam and his family would like to thank all of the many family, friends and loved ones who provided physical, mental, emotional and spiritual support during his valiant battle with cancer.  He appreciated every visit, every FaceTime, every phone call, every text.  He could not have fought as long or as hard as he did without you.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., with a visitation prior from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Interment will follow the services in Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah.
