Obituary

Washington, Utah - Samuel D Houston Jr. passed away quietly at home on September 19, 2021, after a short courageous battle with cancer.  He was surrounded by his family whom he adored with all of his heart and soul.

Sam was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 25, 1953 to Samuel Dean Houston Sr. and Shirley Deon Houston.  He grew up loving the outdoors and was taught by his dad to hunt and fish.  Later in life he made woodworking a hobby. He could fix anything that he put his hands on and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He worked for Questar Gas for 35 years.

On December 21, 1985, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Houston and together they raised five children.  There were three daughters: Carrie Montoya, Heidi Maynard and Amy Richards; and two sons: Justin Patterson and Samuel Houston III. These five children had 12 grandchildren for Sam and 4 great grandchildren.  Sam also thought the world of his nephews and their families:  Troy (Amy), Paul (Elizabeth) and Cameron (Amanda). Sam and his first wife Verlinda also raised many foster children.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David; and his nephew, Justin Dean.

Sam loved to tease and goof off with his family and his best friend Richard.  His contagious smile and laughter could light up a room.  Everyone that met him loved him and he loved everyone.

We would like to thank Dixie Home Health and Hospice with a special thank you to Cindy and Georgia.
