St George, UT - Sandra Marzee Johnson Bayles, 69, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011. She was surrounded by her loving family. Sandra was born February 11, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Arvon Iril Johnson and Edna Sophia Carlson Johnson. Her father, an accomplished outdoors man and engineer with the Utah Fish and Game Department, passed away at an early age, so most of her early years were spent with her mother and older sister, Edna Lourene. She married the love of her life, James Wendell Bayles, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 5, 1962. Sandra was raised in Salt Lake City and attended classes at the University of Utah where she competed on the synchronized swimming team. She graduated with a degree in English Literature. She lived in Topeka, Kansas, for 20 years before returning to Utah. Sandra was a kind and gentle wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who were given the opportunity to be loved by her. She enjoyed many creative activities including quilting, knitting and weaving; demonstrating hand spinning and weaving frequently at the Kansas History Museum. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sandra credited her testimony of Christ and serving in the Church for her positive outlook life and focus on family. Much of her service was spent with youth and music. She served a mission with her husband to the Frankfurt Germany Headquarters of the Church. She had a special gift for music and had the opportunity to sing as a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for about a decade. She loved and adored her children and grandchildren with every ounce of energy she had. Fun spirited, Sandra enjoyed humor and playing games. She never forgot a birthday and traveled to spend time with family every chance she got which made her life complete.
