Obituary

Sharlene Tobler Gordon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and love.

Born on November 22, 1934, in Washington, Utah, Sharlene was the fourth child of Archie and Itha Neilson Tobler and the first to be born in the new family home her father built. Raised in a close-knit family, she learned the values of hard work, creativity, and compassion from her parents and grandparents. Her childhood was filled with memories of farm life, Saturday baths in a Number 3 galvanized wash tub, and adventures at the warm springs and her parents and grandparents' farms herding cows, weeding vegetable rows, tending turkeys.

Sharlene's early years were marked by a love of learning and music. She excelled in school, enjoyed sewing and embroidery, and developed her talents on the piano, violin, clarinet, and bass clarinet. She graduated from Dixie College, then later earning her bachelor's degree in education from the College of Southern Utah. Sharlene's passion for teaching touched the lives of countless children in Kanab, Salt Lake City, Cedar City, and Lincoln County, Nevada.

In 1960, Sharlene married her eternal companion, Berl Antone Gordon. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. They moved to Caliente, Nevada where they raised five children—Shauna, Robert, Rachelle, Troy, and Russell—instilling in them the same values that shaped Sharlene's own life. Her home was filled with music, laughter, and the aroma of her homemade bread and cookies. After many years living in Caliente, they moved to Washington, Utah.

Sharlene's life was one of service. She held many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including music leader, Relief Society president, and missionary. With Berl, she served missions in Argentina, at the Mormon Handcart Historic Sites in Wyoming, and at the St. George Family History Center and many other missions.

A devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, Sharlene cherished time with her growing posterity. She delighted in family reunions, camping trips, and sharing stories of her pioneer heritage. Her testimony of Jesus Christ was unwavering, and she bore it often through word, song, and quiet example.

Sharlene is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers: Leon and Richard.

Shortly after Sharlene's passing, her sister, Marilene (Don) Terry passed away.

Sharlene is survived by her sisters: Bonita (Junius) Bennion, Darwin (Sandra) Tobler, Merlin (Gayle) Tobler, Michael (Karen) Tobler; her loving husband, Berl; her children: Shauna (Ray) Huck, Robert (Jennifer Brown), Rachelle (Roger "Rocky") Rhodes, Troy (Dyan Behunin), Russell (Amy Knight); grandchildren: Melissa, Raymond Jr (RJ), Stephanie, Andrea, Elise, Rylan, Justin, Brandon, Shaun, Collin, Tanner, Austin, Chase, Macy, Jensen; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her warmth, wisdom, and gentle spirit.
