Hurricane, Utah – Our dear Sharon Ann Ball Downing, 82, released her earthly bonds on the evening of Tuesday, December 27, 2023. She battled with Alzheimer's / Dementia for many years. She arrived to her family on August 22, 1941, in Davenport, Iowa.

After her graduation from high school, she enlisted in the USAF. This was where she met her beloved husband, Carl William Downing, Sr.

Sharon was the Director of Catholic Charities in Northern Utah (Ogden). In her many years of life, she was always giving to others through her acts of service. Sharon and Carl were foster parents. She volunteered at The Red Cross and was a volunteer dental assistant. She loved gardening, camping, and road trips, but more than anything she loved her family and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Earl E Ball, Sr. and Dorothea Charlotte Correy Ball; husband, Carl William Downing, Sr.; son, Joseph Earl Downing; and her stepson, Charles Downing. Sharon leaves behind her brother, Earl E. Ball, Jr. (Kathy); sister, Vera M. Henke (Cookie); daughter, Cheryl Steinke; son, Carl Downing, Jr. (Tani); daughter, Debbie Spong; four grandchildren: Dorothy Prescott, Charlie Prescott, Kaitlin Hill and Alexandra Erickson; four bonus grandchildren: Tess Downing, Arwen Downing, Steven Spong and  Christopher Spong; five great-grandchildren: Ryan Prescott, Landon Prescott, Aryanna Hill, Roman Erickson and Gabriel Hill; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

We will love and miss her all the days of our lives.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
