IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shasta
Brooks
December 15, 1978 – June 6, 2025
St. George, Utah – Shasta Dawn Shupe Brooks, 46, of St. George, Utah, passed away peacefully at her home on June 6, 2025. She was born December 15, 1978, in Moab, Utah, to Robert and Janice Shupe. The fourth of five children, Shasta grew up surrounded by the beauty of red rock country and the love of a close-knit family.
At age six, Shasta was diagnosed with diabetes, a challenge she met with remarkable strength, resilience, and a trademark sense of humor that carried her throughout her life.
She graduated from Grand County High School in 1997 and soon after served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Indianapolis, Indiana. Following her mission, Shasta moved to St. George, Utah with her cousin Tiera and sister BJ, a move that would shape her future in meaningful ways. She quickly found her footing in hotel management, a field in which she would build a successful and impactful career.
In 2004, while managing a motel, Shasta met Jason Thien. The two were married on September 22, 2004, and welcomed their daughter, Sierra Elizabeth Thien, on August 30, 2005. The young family lived in Kingman, Arizona, and later returned to St. George, Utah. Though Shasta and Jason separated in 2015, they remained united in their love for their daughter, Sierra.
Later that same year, Shasta met her eternal companion, Bennett Brooks. They were sealed in the St. George, Utah Temple on July 7, 2017, and together built a joyful, faith-centered life. Shasta was the proud mother of Sierra and a devoted bonus mom to Abbylin Jensen, Madison Eggen, Clayton Brooks, Sophia Brooks, and Samuel Brooks. Her love for her children, and later her grandchildren, was deep, constant, and unconditional.
Shasta had a passion for travel, family history, and temple work. She found joy in road trips, camping, genealogy, and weekly temple visits with Bennett. Whether exploring new places or simply sharing a laugh with those she loved, Shasta brought warmth and light into every space she entered.
She is survived by her husband, Bennett Lee Brooks; her children: Sierra Thien, Abbylin (Dale) Jensen, Madison (Calvin) Eggen, Clayton (Ashlynn) Brooks, Sophia Brooks, and Samuel Brooks; and her grandchildren: Navy, Kaizlee, Hazel, Scarlett, and Kohen. She is also survived by her mother, Janice Ferguson Shupe; siblings: Hyrum Shupe, Nugget (Maria) Shupe, and Bobbie Jean (Chad) Bigler; and by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Shupe, and her brother, Billy Bob Shupe.
A viewing will be held Friday, June 13, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
