Provo, UT -- Sheila Eyre Hewett, 71, passed away January 25, 2010 at home in Provo, UT. She was born January 4, 1939 in Fallon, NV to Garn and Laurel Eyre. She is survived by her eight children, David Hewett, Laura Cabanilla, Kimball Hewett, Melinda Witham, Marianne Menon, Rebekah Clifford, Hiram Hewett and Ben Hewett; twenty-three grandchildren, and her siblings Jeanene Little, Craig Eyre, Gary Eyre, Brad Eyre and Alynn Rannalli. Sheila suffered many tribulations in life but was always hopeful, cheerful, fun-loving and refused to say negative things about anyone. She essentially raised eight children alone, often working two jobs. She always provided for her family. She had an adventurous spirit and was always interested in travel and visiting friends and family. She was intelligent and felt that education was important. She instilled in her children a love of learning with the result that most of the eight children received a bachelor's degree with several going on to obtain graduate level degrees. Sheila herself later in life, obtained her own bachelor's degree and then a Master's Degree in Sociology. After retiring from her beloved job with the BYU education office, Sheila served a mission in Munich, Germany. It was immediately upon her return from her mission that she was diagnosed with cancer. She was blessed with enough time to say her goodbyes to her loved ones and finish her mortal mission on earth. She is dearly loved, she was our rock, and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the River Grove LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 1220 West 450 North, Provo, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday, January 29th from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 85 East 300 South, Provo, Utah and on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be held Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George City Cemetery, St. George, Utah. Flowers may be sent to Walker Mortuary in Provo.
