Obituary

St. George, Utah – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sherrel May Stewart, age 78, on June 24, 2025.  Sherrel was loved by her family and friends.

Sherrel was predeceased by her parents, Judson and Ruby; her husband, Charlie; and her brother, Milan.  Sherrel is survived by her two children: Stephenie and Tawna; four grandchildren: Maia, Ashlynn, Kimberlee and Christopher; and one great-granddaughter, Natasha.  She is also survived by two of her siblings: Bert Gould and Judy Johnson.

Sherrel was born to Judson and Ruby May Gould in Ontario, Oregon. She spent much of her early life in Idaho. She graduated from Middleton High School and was married to Charles Stewart in 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Middleton. After their marriage, Charles and Sherrel shared life together across the states of Idaho, Louisiana, Colorado, Alaska, Washington, Utah, and a permanent residency visa in Mexico.

Sherrel was the youngest child out of four which is probably how she gained a witty sense of humor, a strong spirit of determination, peacemaking skills, and unwavering loyalty to those she loved.  She worked diligently throughout her life in many different roles: sole breadwinner while her husband went to university, homemaker and mother, ministry support, businesswomen, tour bus-driver and small business owner.

Sherrel was a devout Christian and follower of Jesus Christ. Charlie and Sherrel had a heart to serve others, which took them to Alaska where they lived for over 40 year and allowed them to travel on short-term missions to Chile, Romania and Mexico.  Sherrel's faith was quiet, yet strong, as she encouraged others through local service opportunities such as MOPS, Bible Study leadership, Suicide Crisis support, and youth outreach, to name a few.

Sherrel also had many hobbies throughout her life.  She painted, played the guitar, did crochet and needle-point work, sewed extensively, and made beautiful quilts.  She loved to travel and gather with friends and family to play games and enjoy good food and laughter.   She will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Sherrel at Calvary Chapel St. George in Utah on September 5, 2025, at 10:30 am. If anyone has pictures or videos to share at this celebration or special memories or messages for the family, please email mailto:memories@1yz.com
