Ivins, Utah - Shirley Deon Houston passed away December 2, 2014 in Ivins, Utah. She was born to Elsworth Hanson and Vera Harkness on June 12, 1929. She married Samuel Dean Houston on June 3, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is preceded in death by her mother and father; mom, Florence Hansen; her husband, Samuel Dean Houston, Sr.: son, David R. Houston; daughter-in-law, Melody Houston; brother, Darl Hansen; and grandson, Justin Houston. Shirley loved horses, her dogs, enjoyed camping with grandchildren and son Sam, and shopping with friends Michael and Sharie. She is survived by her son, Samuel D. Houston; grandchildren: Troy Houston (Amy), Paul (Liz), Cameron (Amanda), Samuel III (Denise) and step-grandchildren, Heidi Maynard (Troy), Justin Patterson and Amy Richards (Ron); 19 (almost 20) great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Clara City Cemetery. A family visitation will be held prior to services at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
