St. George Utah
- Shirley Hinton Judd, 89, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 7, 2017 just shy of her 90th Birthday. She was born to George Luther Hinton and Sadie La Vell Jackson on January 15, 1927 in La Verkin Utah. She lost her father when she was 6 years old and was raised with her siblings by her saintly mother.
She married Thomas Whitehead Judd on February 13, 1947 while she was working in St George as a phone operator. They later were sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on March 18, 1967. Out of that marriage came three sons, Randy, Brent, and Joe. After the marriage of those sons, she gained three daughters whom she loved very much and appreciated them helping her to raise her three boys. After 55 years of marriage, dad passed away on July 2, 2002.
She was the consummate mother of the 50's and 60's. She loved to cook and her cinnamon rolls and Christmas candy will always be remembered by those lucky enough to have tasted them. Dinner was at 7:00 pm each night after Dad came home from the store and was always as a family. Homemade hamburgers, french fries, and Lawrence Welk was a Saturday night tradition. She had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed making up songs and singing them to anyone who would listen. Mom always loved babies and for that reason she had a special relationship with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved so much. She was a wonderful mother, teacher, provider and friend.
Tom was the owner of the Thomas Judd Store and she supported and worked beside him in the store. She worked for many years for JC Penney Store. She was active in the LDS Church and held many positions of leadership.
She is survived by her three sons: Randy (Carolyn), Brent (Deanna), and Joe (Patti); two sisters, Beverly Simpkins and Lorna Squire; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tom; two brothers, Max Hinton and Delwin Hinton; two sisters, Carmonetta Heywood and Gwen Neilson; and a grandson Jeremy Judd.
Mom suffered from dementia for the last several years. We really lost our mother several years ago. Our hearts go out to families who are experiencing the effects of this terrible disease. Our deepest thanks and gratitude go to Janna and the staff of Beehive Homes in Dixie Downs. It became her home and the staff become part of her grandchildren for the past 3 1/2 years. Their loving and caring concern for mom is greatly appreciated by her family.
