Obituary

Provo / St. George, Utah - Signe Caroline Ikhaml passed away peacefully on September 30, 2015. Signe was born May 21, 1915, in Miles City, Montana, to Carl and Elizabeth Mattson Jacobson. The family later moved to South Maple Ridge, Minnesota, where Signe enjoyed a delightful childhood. In 1935, Signe married Francis Heurkens and they were blessed with four daughters. The marriage ended in divorce. Signe later married Joseph Mathew Ikhaml on April 26, 1946, who brought three additional daughters to their marriage. Thirteen years later they had a daughter together, which completed their family of eight daughters. Signe and Joe happily raised their daughters in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1981, Signe and Joe answered a call to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Papua, New Guinea. After their mission they moved to the Bloomington Hills area in St. George, Utah, where they spent many joyful years with family and friends. Signe's beloved husband, Joseph, passed away in September, 2002. Six years later Signe moved to the Courtyard at Jamestown Assisted Living Center in Provo, Utah, where she resided until her death. Signe has been a hard worker, a devoted wife, a committed mother, a trusted friend, and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many church and civic positions throughout her life. She has been a source of gentle strength, constant encouragement, and enduring love for all who have been blessed to know her. Signe's most cherished memories centered around her family. She was honored on her 100th birthday with a celebration so grand that she considered it a family reunion. She thought of herself as a richly blessed woman to have been loved by so many. Signe leaves behind her eight daughters, Marlene Ikhaml Carpenter (Robert); Francis Heurkens Terry (Don); Barbara Heurkens Mecham; Kathryn Ikhaml Henderson; Eileen Heurkens Roundy-Tullis (Paul deceased, LaMond); Linda Heurkens Laws (Dwight, deceased); Joyce Ikhaml Kessler (Val); Lauri Ikhaml Heiner (Greg). Signe has 46 grandchildren, 132 great grandchildren, and 70 great-great grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
