Washington, UT - Stanton Earl Sawyer (Stan), age 88, passed away peacefully at home in Washington, Utah, on April 4, 2025.

Stan was born on April 16, 1936, in Panguitch, Garfield, Utah. He was the oldest son of Earl Sawyer and Leora Wilson Sawyer.  He graduated from Panguitch High School in 1954.

He attended Dixie College where he met Maxien Behunin.  They were married December 23, 1954, in the St. George Temple.  She died July 17, 1966, leaving behind three children, Coral, Jerry, and Tye.

On March 23, 1967, he married Betty Jane Chappell in the St. George Temple.  Joining this new family were her children, Delna and Anna. An additional three sons, Troy, Art, and Lynn, joined the family, making it a "Yours, Mine, and Ours" family but in reality, it has always been an "Ours" family.

Stan was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various callings serving in the High Priest Group Leadership, Elder's Quorum Presidency, Young Men's Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Ward Membership Clerk, and Scout Leader.  He completed a service mission with his wife, Betty, at the Family History Center in St. George, Utah.  His declining health over the past few years prevented him from attending his meetings as often as he wanted.

He lived in the communities of Hatch, Lyman, Hanksville, and Washington where he and his family made many memories and friends.

Stan was a heavy-duty mechanic and welder.  He owned his own businesses and worked for others throughout his career. He grew up working alongside his dad at their sawmill and was often left alone with a lot of responsibility to complete assigned tasks. Early in his career he worked alongside his dad constructing roads throughout southern Utah. These experiences instilled a great work ethic that was evident throughout his life.

Stan's hobbies included ATV's (both riding and working on them), a member of the Tri-State ATV Club, remote control airplanes, hunting, camping, and being outdoors. He found the most joy in spending his time with family, young and old.  He enjoyed many family campouts and the annual Easter family reunion.

Stan is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Leora Sawyer; wife, Maxien; brothers, Dell and Larry; grandson, Eric Wayne Sawyer; and great-great grandson, Archer Roy Moosman.  He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Coral (Lane); Jerry; Tye (DeAnn); Delna (Dan); Anna (Bob); Troy (Vanessa); Art (Amy); and Lynn.  He has 27 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild

The family wishes to thank the community and members of the Washington First Ward for the kindness they have shown over the years and the compassionate service they provided throughout this difficult time.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Washington First Ward, 446 E. Mangum Way, Washington, Utah.  A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church.

Interment will be in the Washington City Cemetery located at 300 Park View Drive, Washington City UT. 84780.
