Steven Decker Corry

Steven Decker Corry passed away on September 8, 2026 in St. George, Utah at 84 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kristine Davis and Judy Liddle, and a son, Lance Corry.

He was born in Cedar City on July 12, 1942 to Elwood J. and Florence Decker Corry. He married Sybil Palmer 60 years ago on December 22, 1966 in St. George, Utah. He is survived by his wife Sybil, his sons DeLynn (Leana) of Cedar Hills, Utah; Clark (Shelly) of Orem, Utah and daughter Ember Conner (Josh) of St. George, Utah. Grandchildren: Ciara Hazelbarth (Paul), Seth Corry (Lauren), Kyla Kilgore (Mason) Kendra Hatton, Micah Olsen, Lance Corry, Tristan Corry, and Mckell, Benjamin, Lucy, David and Alyssa Conner. His brothers Bob, Jeff and E. J. and sister Elizabeth Sampson.

When Steven was twelve years old his mother, Florence, passed away. That was a great trial for him. His dad later married Iris Parker. She was a blessing to the family and once again restored wholeness to this family of six motherless children: Kristine, Judy, Steve, Bob, Jeff and Liz. After Elwood married Iris they had another son, E. J. Corry.

When Steve was a senior in High School and only 17 years old he determined to join the National Guard. For the rest of his life he attributed this experience as a turning point in his life. He realized that he had been given the great blessing and advantage of growing up in a home where the Gospel of Jesus Christ had been lived and taught. He determined to follow the teachings of the Savior for the rest of his life.

Upon finishing his basic training with the National Guard Steve returned home and prepared to serve a mission. He was called to the Eastern States mission serving most of the time on Long Island and in New Jersey. He worked hard and being the accountant that he is at heart he counted and recorded every door they tracked. He was very proud to tell everyone that he knocked on 10,000 doors during this time. He had a successful mission and on his return flight home he felt the assurance of the spirit that his work was accepted, he had done his best. In deed the feeling of “Well done thou good and faithful servant” filled his soul.

Returning home he was determined to attend Brigham Young University. None of his family up to this point had gone there and his dad did not encourage it. But, he was not deterred so off he went. After several years he received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in accounting from BYU. While there he met and married the love of his life, Sybil Palmer. He passed the CPA exam and upon graduation was offered a job in Portland, Oregon with the accounting firm Touche Ross Bailey and Smart.

Steve and Sybil enjoyed their experiences in Portland. It was there they were able to get their first child, Steven DeLynn Corry. After a couple of years in Portland Steve was offered a job in Boise, Idaho with Boise Cascade. In Idaho they got their second son, Clark Thomas Corry.

In 1976 Steve decided to return to Cedar City and take over his father’s Insurance and Real Estate business. In Cedar City they got one more son, Lance Palmer Corry and later their only daughter, Ember.

During these years in Cedar City, Steve served in many ways; he served on the Board of Adjustments for the city for some 14 years. He served on the Board of Directors for the State Bank of Southern Utah for over 20 years and loved that experience. He was active in Rotary and the Iron County Board of Realtors, acting as President in each of these for a period of time.

He served as a Bishop and Stake President for his church. He served as a liaison for the church of Jesus Christ with the Branches in the Utah Prison system for all of Eastern Utah. He was a faithful Home Teacher and loved and looked after his families throughout all of his other involvements.

Steve loved his family and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow and learn and become wonderful people. He enjoyed watching their sporting events, the many baseball games and the music concerts and recitals.

Steve was a person with many interests. He loved sports and was an avid fan of BYU sports and a loyal Los Angeles Dodgers fan. He with his family enjoyed skiing in the mountains. He also enjoyed the Music Arts series that we have in Cedar City. He enjoyed concerts, plays, symphonies and really all music. He enjoyed playing the piano. He loved singing with the Master Singers and often sang in the Messiah. Steve loved to dance and he and Sybil participated in several Dance Festivals together.

In 2007 Steve and Sybil had the great opportunity of serving an LDS mission in Athens Greece. They enjoyed this time of serving together. Steve was a counselor to the Mission President and played a great roll in relieving some of the burden the President carried as the Church Leader in the countries of Greece and Cyprus. As there was not a District or a Stake the Mission President was over all of the Branches as well as his missionaries. Steve was able to take over most of the responsibilities for the Branches; callings, sustainings, and training leaders and doing so many other things to help the Mission President. He was over all of the auditing and records for the Branches as well.

After their return from the mission they were able to serve in the temple for several years, both in St. George and Cedar City. That was a special joy for them.

As Steve graduates and goes on to his next area of assignment we can be sure that the phrase still applies as the angels in heaven greet him with love and assurance “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”

Funeral services for Steve will be held on September 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar City Utah Stake Center at 155 E. 400 S. There will be a visitation that morning from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and on Thursday evening, September 17, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. all at the same address.
