Susan Nicieza Alberro, 91, passed away on October 5, 2026 in St. George, Utah. A lifelong disciple of Jesus Christ, devoted mother and grandmother, educator, pianist, and nature and animal lover.
Susan was born July 23, 1935, and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina – to immigrant parents from Spain (Ramon and Maria de los Angeles). She had two older siblings, Hilda and Omar.
Susan was taught the importance of culture, language, and education. She had fond memories of large family gatherings where love, good food, and music abounded. She graduated as a professor of piano (PhD) from the Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires.
Soon after getting married in 1954, she and her husband (Henry) emigrated to New York where her two children were raised. She taught elementary school and private music lessons while completing a master’s degree in bilingual education from Long Island University (1977).
She changed the trajectory of her life and family when she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (1978), before moving to San Diego, California. She expanded her educational experience by teaching language and cultures at the high school level, and courses at Palomar College and National University.
Susan had a loving heart, optimistic attitude, and loved life. Her children were her priority, and she inculcated the importance of faith, family, integrity, and the value of work, whether shining a floor or completing advanced degrees. She was loved by her family for her ability to provide and nurture in deep and meaningful ways. Students of all ages also loved her for her concern and wise counsel.
Susan is survived by her daughter Cynthia Sowa (Bill) and son Glen Alberro (Sandra); and her grandchildren: John, Joseph, Steven (Rosie), Jenelise, David, Liana, and Caraly Sowa; and Andrew (Soojin), Alan, and Alec Alberro. Great grandchildren: Julian Alberro and Sofia Sowa.
