St. George, Utah - Terry Kanies passed away October 12, 2022, in St. George, Utah. He was born January 8, 1949, in Denver, Colorado to Joseph and Margaret Kanies. He attended St. Louis Elementary School and was in the first graduating class at Most Precious Blood Elementary School. He graduated from Mullen High School in 1967, and attended Colorado State University, graduating in 1971 with a degree in business management. He began a long career in the banking industry in Colorado and Salt Lake City, Utah. In 2009 he was hired by the State of Utah as a Bank Examiner, retiring in 2019. He and his wife, Patty, then moved to St. George, Utah to enjoy warmer weather.
Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Patty (2021), his parents and youngest brother, Paul. He is survived by his children: Carrie Belt and Mike Kanies, and Todd Barszcz; nine grandchildren: Tryler (Anna), Jake, Derian, Summer, Noah, Kody, Austin, Miles, and Gracie; four great-grandchildren: Abigail, Lilly, Finnley and Wyatt; sister, Peggy Vernon and family; and brother, Jim Kanies and family.
Terry's hobbies included fly-tying, fly fishing, Mahjongg, and Cribbage, but most important to him were his children, grand and great-grandchildren, family, and friends. He had a boisterous voice and the most wonderful laugh!
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations in memory of Terry to The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, www.mcsf.org , Wounded Warrior Project, www.support.woundedwarriorproject.org , or Hidden Heroes to support military caregivers, www.give.hiddenheroes.org .
Services and reception will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, c/o Archdiocese of Denver Catholic Funeral & Cemetery Services of Colorado. For full obituary please visit www.cfcscolorado.org .
