St. George, UT – Cal Terry Tebbs, 84, of St. George, Utah, succumbed to Alzheimer's as he was surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 3, 2018.
Mr. Tebbs is survived by his wife of 24.5 years, Josephine Tebbs; children: Monica Stock (Thibodaux, LA), Terry Tebbs Jr. (Cedar City, UT), Tom Tebbs (Las Vegas, NV), Mary Tebbs (Salt Lake City, UT), Jeff Tebbs (Pleasant Grove, UT), Julie Chauncey (Las Vegas, NV) and Dallas Tebbs (Las Vegas, NV). He is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Cal "Terry" Tebbs was born in Cowley, Wyoming in 1934 and was one of eleven children raised and schooled in the farming and ranching community of Cowley by his parents Cal Meeks Tebbs and Reba Marchant Tebbs.
Terry Tebbs is well known for his accomplishments on the basketball court. His senior year in High School his team won the State Championship in 1952. After high school Tebbs walked on at BYU eventually earning a scholarship and going on to become a standout at BYU.
While at BYU Tebbs played on a team that was ranked as high as number 5 in the nation. His Senior year, Tebbs was named All Conference, All District, Honorable Mention All-American, and Little All-American for players under six foot. After his senior year Tebbs was named the Outstanding Senior Athlete at BYU. In 1981 Tebbs was inducted into the BYU Athletic Hall of Fame.
After college Tebbs excelled in the publishing and advertising fields mainly working for Highlander Publications in Southern California where he became a partner and leader in the company's advertising department. He eventually rose to the position of CEO.
Upon his retirement Tebbs and his wife, Josephine, moved from Southern California to enjoy their life together in the community of Sun River in St. George, Utah. In St. George Tebbs continued his active lifestyle which included golf, motorhome road trips with his wife, Josephine, and dog, Buddy, and lots of family time with his kids and grandkids. Tebbs continued to follow and love the Utah Jazz and all BYU sports teams throughout his retirement. But most important to him were the games his grandkids would play as he would travel to Las Vegas, California, or throughout Utah every chance he could to watch them in action.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. at SunRiver LDS 2nd Branch Chapel, 4461 South Country Club Drive, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held, prior to service, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., at the church. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery.SunRiver LDS 2nd Branch
