Damiano

St. George, Utah - Thomas Maurice Damiano was a veteran of World War II. He served in the USAAF during the latter part of the war and was stationed in Nottingham in the United Kingdom. He flew in C-47's and was a flight engineer. While serving, he survived a mid-air collision and later participated in the Normandy invasion on D-Day. After the war he was based in Paris with the USAAF where he spent almost a year shuttling displaced prisoners-of-war back to their families.
On his return to the U.S., he worked on many public works projects including some of the major highway tunnels in the Boston area. He later worked for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, from which he retired in 1975. He moved to St. George with his wife Jean in 1992. Jean passed away in 1996.
Thomas was a strong family man with an outstanding sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean and son, Thomas. He is survived by his daughters: Christine (John) Schijf, Jeanette Hovey, Karen Imposimato; son, Richard; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his devoted friend, Victoria Perdicaro.
There will be a public viewing for family and friends on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Boulevard. A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. George Catholic Church on Saturday June 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., with prayer services following at the old section of the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
