Obituary

Timothy Earl Jackson, 57, of Hurricane, Utah, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the VA Home in Ivins, Utah, on October 17, 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with glioblastoma.

Tim was born on February 26, 1968, to Melvin E. and Sheila M. Jackson at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Arizona. As the son of an Air Force family, Tim's early life was filled with adventure — living in two foreign countries and several U.S. states before his family eventually settled in Utah.

He attended school in San Antonio, Texas, Lehi, and Hurricane, graduating from Hurricane High School in 1987. Shortly after graduation, Tim joined the Dixie National Forest wildland firefighting team, proudly helping to battle the great Yellowstone fires of 1988.

In 1989, he enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard, where he served with dedication and pride for more than 22 years. His deployments included the 2002 Utah Winter Olympics, Dugway Proving Grounds, and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Tim was deeply proud of his service and the lifelong friendships he built with his National Guard family.

Over the years, Tim worked many different jobs — from the turkey farm to Deseret Industries — but his favorite was working nights on the maintenance crew at the Washington Walmart, where his coworkers became like a second family.

One of Tim's greatest joys was paleontology. His fascination with fossils and dinosaurs began when he lived in Lehi and grew into a lifelong passion. He loved exploring, making new discoveries, and sharing his finds and knowledge with the staff at the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site, where he was always welcomed with open arms.

Tim is survived by his loving parents, Melvin and Sheila Jackson; his siblings Alison Jackson, Christopher Jackson, and Fiona Peterson (John); nieces and nephews Kaitlyn Wright (Stephen McHale), Kirsty Wright (Jordan Burne), John Robert Peterson (Ashlynn Murphy), Eric Peterson, Wyatt Peterson (Kayla Neilson), Christopher Peterson, and Magnus Peterson; and his cherished great-niece and great-nephew, Isadora Galbraith and Luke Burne.

A memorial service to celebrate Tim's life will be held at Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 North Main Street, Hurricane, Utah, on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 3 p.m. A graveside service will follow in Glendale, Utah, on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site in Tim's name — a place that brought him so much happiness, https://utahdinosaurs.org/get-involved/ .

The Jackson family extends their heartfelt thanks to Applegate Hospice, Dixie Hospice, and the VA Home for their compassionate care during Tim's illness. To Court Pendleton for being in Tim's corner when we needed him the most. LuEllen and the rest of his Walmart family for showing Tim so much love and support. Also to those that delivered food and hugs to keep us going while caring for Tim. Finally, a special thank you to the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site for arranging a memorable visit that meant the world to Tim and his loved ones.
