Hurricane, Utah - Vee "Gabby" Henry Smith, 73, rode off into the sunset on January 20, 2012 in Hurricane, Utah. He was born on November 21, 1938 in Henrieville, Utah to Robert Earl Smith and Caroline Evelyn Goulding. He married Judith Ann Highers on December 13th, 1975 and settled in Hurricane.
He was born and raised in Henrieville, Utah where he explored the country by horseback. After leaving Henrieville, he traveled around, mostly in Utah doing various jobs. He served in the US Army, handled mules at Bryce Canyon and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, worked cattle in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona, was an electrician, a foreman on a farm, and was the custodian of the Hurricane Senior Citizen's Center for 17 years before retiring in 2011. But his true love was being a cowboy. He loved being on a horse. He enjoyed taking road trips, especially to see his grandchildren. He enjoyed reading, working jigsaw puzzles, watching basketball, mainly the Utah Jazz, rodeos and horse racing.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, David (Holly) Johns of West Jordan, Utah, Dale (Jennifer) Johns of Land O' Lakes, Florida, Dan Smith of Hurricane, Utah, Dean Smith of Hurricane, Utah; 5 grandchildren: Breanna Johns, Kyle Johns, Brooklyn Johns, Braxton Johns, Brighton Johns; brother, Roe (Colleen) Smith; sisters: Ida Stoddard, Joy Kirk, Loa (Max) Sevy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sister: Guy Smith, Don Smith, Lee Smith, Jed Smith, Van Smith and Amy Clark.
Please note change in service times. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurricane LDS 7 th Ward Chapel, 155 East 1050 North, Hurricane, Utah. A visitation will be held on Friday, prior to services, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at the Hurricane City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary (435) 635-9922.
