St. George, Utah - Verne C Barnard, 82, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. He was born on May 20, 1931 in Oakley, Idaho to Verne and Rhodetta Peterson and later adopted by William Barnard, his mother's second husband. He married Joan Leavitt on June 20, 1950 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He was loved by many and an example of unconditional love to all. Verne is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Joan; children: Brad (Sandy), Brent, Joni (Frank) Peterson and Jane (Ahren) Makanoa; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert C Barnard; half brothers, Nels and Barry; half sisters, Allyn, Ladet and Vernae; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Blair Barnard.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morningside LDS 5 ^th Ward Chapel, 912 South 1740 East (Foremaster Ridge), St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Saturday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel.
