St. George, UT - On Friday, May 21, 2010, our sweet mother was released from her mission on this earth and went on to join her sweetheart waiting on the other side. Virginia was born at home in Salt Lake City to George L. and Emma Hadler Price on June 16, 1924. She was the youngest of 8 children and was preceded in death by her 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She loved growing up in Salt Lake City and was proud of her Mormon heritage and upbringing. In 1944, she served as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission, where she met a tall handsome missionary who later became her eternal companion. Virginia and John C. Brown were married on December 14, 1945 in the Salt Lake City Temple and sealed by Elder Spencer W. Kimball. John and Virginia lived in Salt Lake City, California, and the Mesa and Tempe areas of Arizona, moving back and forth for work and family obligations. They were blessed with 7 children who filled their lives with love. They are: John (Karen), Lee (Gregg) Jensen, Amy (Kent) Dummar, George (Naomi), Irene Sanchez, Bob (Cindy Ballantyne), and Becky (Mike) Fish. Their 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren were the joy of their lives. Mother loved serving in many callings in the church and took friends under her wing in all the wards where they lived. She excelled in the art of homemaking: cooking, sewing, canning, quilting, and crocheting. She made every member of her family a quilt or afghan. Her holiday carrot cakes were a family tradition. In 1991, Virginia and John served in the Perth Australia mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and made lasting friends through this service. They spent their retirement years in the Tempe/Mesa area. In 1995, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a warm family gathering. John passed away on February 6, 2003. The light and sparkle in Mom's life dimmed with his passing. She began her struggle with Alzheimer's and went to live in St. George, Utah to be with her daughters, Lee and Amy. She spent the last year in the Beehive Home where she was lovingly cared for by the staff. The family would also like to thank Dr. Grace Paradela for her care. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Wednesday, May 26th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services, both at the Mortuary. Interment will be held June 14, 2010 at the St. Johns City Cemetery in Arizona. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
