IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia "Gini"
Fairchild
April 20, 1929 – October 14, 2012
St. George, Utah - Virginia (Gini) Lou Fairchild, 83, died October 14, 2012 at Beehive Homes in St. George, Utah.
Gini was born on April 20, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan, to Adam and Finis Hausman. She had one brother, Donald, deceased, and one sister, Marian. In 1949, Gini married Norman Tafel, who died just four years after their union.
Gini was always an attractive woman and she did some modeling in her twenties. Later, she worked in advertising until she met her second husband, the love of her life. In 1964, Gini married Al Fairchild in Saginaw, Michigan. Al preceded Gini in death in 1996.
Gini and Al loved the southwest and often vacationed in the area. After retirement, they moved to St. George in 1976. They became active members of the St. George community and were avid golfers, living near the golf course in Bloomington. Gini loved the Utah Mountains and enjoyed touring the country side gathering pretty rocks for her yard and picnicking at Pine Mountain. She also volunteered at the St. George Chamber of Commerce for many years and won the Presidential Service Award. Gini has always loved animals, especially horses and dogs. In her younger years, she raised Llewellyn Setters. Gini never met a stranger and was loved by all.
Gini is survived by her daughter, Debbie Potochnik and son-in-law, Tony Potochnik of Rogers, Arkansas and her granddaughter, Angela Potochnik of Cincinnati, Ohio. Gini's sister, Marian and her husband, Jim Davy still reside in Saginaw, Michigan. Ann and Ray Fairchild, niece and nephew, reside in Indianapolis, Indiana. Gini was expecting a great grandchild in January.
A memorial service will be held at Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Virginia Fairchild Memorial Golf Scholarship at Dixie State College, 225 South 700 East, St. George, Utah, 84770.
